Prasna roughly translates to 'Question' and equates to what is known as 'Horary' astrology outside of India. Horary astrology, or Prasna from India is in many ways it's own branch of astrological science which applies many methodologies and goes by several names. Prasna is a form of astrological investigation that aims to yield answers to an immediate and specific question. This method is based on fundamental principles found in Vedas, and is thoroughly outlined in several classic and ancient texts, including modern treatises on the subject. Over time there have been many advancements in this field of astrology which have allowed Jyotisha to achieve a great deal of accuracy and precision by implementing various techniques. This method of astrology gives answers to specific questions that range from simple yes/no questions, to more complex ones, and also delineates the circumstances surrounding the question. This method is more suited to investigate questions and issues that are of a mundane, and exterior nature, although traditionally it does have spiritual applications as well. Although Prasna does give thorough answers and insights, it is meant to address questions that relate to the external environment in relation to the person or people asking. In order to do thorough examinations and to achieve accuracy through this method, time, time zone, and specific location of the questioner must be made clear.
